Welcome to the city of Johnstown’s Comprehensive Plan! Over the last year, we’ve worked as a community to develop our response to the profound opportunities – and challenges – presented by recent economic developments in the region. This investment just beyond our southern border took our community by surprise. In that moment, it would have been easy to allow this wave to wash over our community, diluting the character, independence, and identity of our unique place. Instead, we’ve worked together to craft this response. Our plan empowers this city to take charge and lead the city into the future. It enables our residents to express their views on future growth and investment clearly. It establishes a community-derived vision that aligns with our rich history and sets the stage for transformative change. While also setting the stage for action, identifying dozens of critical projects, programs, and policies designed to carry Johnstown forward. The plan points to the power of our great community and caring residents. But we can’t do it alone. This work acknowledges essential partnerships, like the one shared between the city and the Johnstown-Monroe School District. It addresses the realities of our starting point and considers the strategy and sequence behind our forthcoming work. The “why” within all this action points directly back to you. We’re investing now, we’re collaborating now, we’re working so hard now, so we can deliver this town not just, not less, but greater and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us. We are looking forward to the hard work because we’ll need to do it together. That is Johnstown today and that’s the Johnstown we envision. Join us!
