Wastewater/Sewer

The Wastewater Treatment facility at 470 West Jersey Street has been in service since December 2005. This plant has an average design flow of 1.2 million gallons a day, a maximum design flow of 3.0 million gallons a day, and a peak hydraulic flow of 4 million gallons a day. The plant allows Johnstown to meet current and future EPA regulations. The facility also provides service to new industrial and housing projects in the Johnstown area.

Streets

The Johnstown Service Department is responsible for the maintenance of the following:

  • Public streets, alleys, and parking lots

  • Public sidewalks, buildings, and grounds

  • Street lights and traffic signals

  • Parks, public trees

  • Maintenance and repair of public vehicles and equipment

  • Installation and repairs of City owned signs and properties

  • Snow removal and street sweeping

  • Mowing of City property

  • Purchase of equipment and materials

  • Right of Way Permit Application

Water

The water treatment plant is located at 395 W. Jersey Street. It is a one million gallon per day facility. Construction started in the summer of 1993 and was completed in the spring of 1995. The plant cost was approximately two million dollars.

The plant permit is governed by the Ohio EPA. Drinking water source assessment

The distribution system is made up of 22.3 miles of piping ranging in size from 2 to 12 inches. the majority of the pipe is ductile iron pipe ( DIP ) and polyvinyl chloride ( PVC ) pipe. The system also has 202 fire hydrants and numerous valves and continues to grow. The distribution system includes the one million gallon water tower which went online in October 2002.
